Obituaries Wednesday February 22nd

Mary L. Greer, 91, of Burlington, died at 4:03 PM Monday, February 20, 2017, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.

 

Born November 12, 1925, in Macomb, IL, she was the daughter of Guy and Gladys Jones Woods. On October 20, 1979, she married George Greer in Waterloo.

 

Mary was a seamstress and assisted the local police departments with sewing their patches on their uniforms.

 

She was of the Christian faith.

 

She loved traveling, gardening, crocheting, listening to music and watching her grandchildren.  Mary read the newspaper every morning and usually was up before the paper was delivered.

 

Survivors include two sons, Michael Bedenbender of Burlington and Marvin Bedenbender of Burlington; two daughters, Connie Bedenbender of Brownsville, TX and Sheila Gonzalez of Burlington; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren..

 

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, James Griswold and Kenneth Griswold; one daughter, Verna Schmitz; one brother, Donald Woods; one sister, Norma Inghram; two grandsons, Norman and Todd and one great-grandchildren.

 

The Graveside Committal Service for Ms. Greer will be 10:30 AM Thursday, February 23, 2017, at Aspen Grove Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the service will meet at the Sunnyside Avenue gate prior to the service for a procession to the gravesite.

 

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the family.

Mrs. Barbara Ann Hansen, 75, of Burlington, died Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Blair House, West Burlington.  Cremation has been accorded

and inurnment will be at a later date at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Glendive, MT.  There will be no service.  Elliott Chapel is assisting the

family with arrangements.  A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice, West Burlington.

 

 

Mr. Rodney M. Kaler, 64, of Dallas City, IL passed away Monday, February 20, 2017 near Dallas City.

He was born December 16, 1952 in Canton, IL, the son of Ray Eugene and Laura Jane Lieurance Kaler.

Mr. Kaler lived in Tulsa, OK for many years where he worked in security and managed an Arby’s restaraunt. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings and the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes. Following the death of his wife Deborah in 2007, he returned to this area.

He is survived by his his significant other, Sherrill Gilpin of Dallas City, 1 brother, Steve Kaler of North Carolina and 3 sisters, Jayne Herschman of Dallas City, Elaine Handley of Oklahoma and Deloris Rodeffer of LaHarpe, IL and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, 2 brothers, Carl and Keith Kaler and 1 sister, Charlene Clay.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, February 24, 2017 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City where the family will meet with friends from 9:00 AM Friday until time of services. A memorial fund has been established for Big Brothers, Big Sisters or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Condolences may be left at banksandbeals.com
