Kenneth LeRoy Carlson, 88, of Morning Sun died Wednesday October 4, 2017
at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa.
Born September 13, 1929 in Morning Sun, Iowa. He was the son of Oscar and Bertha Okell Carlson.
He was a 1947 graduate of Morning Sun High School.
On May 28, 1963 he married Jane Ann Robinson in Bloomfield, Iowa.
Mr. Carlson was a farmer. He lived on and farmed the family Okell Century Farm his entire life.
He was a member of the Morning Sun First Presbyterian Church.
He had recently retired from the Board of Directors of the Morning Sun Telephone Company after serving 54 years.
He was a past member of the Des Moines County Cattlemen’s Association.
He enjoyed his daily early morning coffee with the Yarmouth Elevator gang.
Kenny was proud of his Swedish heritage and frequently attended events at Swedesburg.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Candy (Dave) Pugh of Columbus Junction and Elaine Carlson of Morning Sun; two sons, Rod (Bev) Carlson of Wapello and Don (Vicki) Carlson of Des Moines.
Six grandchildren, Gina (Greg) Rutenbeck of Ely, Paula (Dustin) Bliven of New London, Marc (Courtney) Carlson of Mediapolis, Kyle (Ali) Carlson of Wilton, Adam Carlson and Clinton Carlson both of Des Moines.There are eight great grandchildren.
Sister Eloise Kerr of Morning Sun.Several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, October 9, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church in Morning Sun, Pastor Jon Evans will officiate. Visitation for Kenneth will be held on Monday, October 9, 2017 from 10:00 am until time of the service at the church. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun at a later date.A memorial has been established for the Morning Sun First Presbyterian Church.

Howie Hamor, 24, of Burlington, died Saturday, September 30, 2017, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born December 24, 1992, in Burlington, IA, he was the son of Howard Leon and Amber Dawn Goddard Hamor.
Howie was a very special, loving and caring person. He was outgoing and quick to love new people. He enjoyed working on cars, learning new skills, traveling, and tinkering. He also enjoyed hiking, the outdoors and camping, he was always up for a new adventure.
Survivors include his father; his uncle, Kenneth (Kim) Hamor of Burlington; his maternal grandparents, Floyd and Judy Goddard of Muscatine; his aunt and uncle, Pam and Troy Sherner of Moscow, IA; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, and his paternal grandparents, Janet and Kenneth Hamor.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.
There will be no visitation or services.
A memorial has been established for the Human Rights Campaign in honor of the LGBTQ Community.

Randolph Thomas Dodds died at 9:15 PM Tuesday evening at Great River Hospice in Burlington after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Randolph, or Randy to anyone who knew him, was born Jan. 15, 1949 to Donald and Lorraine Dodds of Ottumwa, later of Burlington.
He attended the Burlington Community School District and graduated in 1967. He worked several jobs after high school including positions at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Trane Corp., Coppus Murray and ended his career at Dresser-Rand where he retired in July of 2012.
Randy married Pamela Ann (Rheinschmidt) Vandenberg on July 9, 1988, inherited her four children as his own and they made a home in West Burlington.
He was an avid race fan and had passions for visiting with friends and family, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the San Francisco 49ers. From a very young age, Randy was fixated with automobiles and racing, working on pit crews at 34 Raceway and racing in his youth while working on cars with his father.
He was also a former member of Boy Scout Troop 68 out of Burlington.
He is survived by his wife; his sister Pam (Dodds) Vroom (husband Jim) of Burlington; his four children: Dan Rheinschmidt (wife Karen) of Cape Coral, Fla., Chuck Vandenberg (wife Lee) of Fort Madison, John Vandenberg (wife Susan) of West Burlington and Mike Vandenberg (wife Tracie) of West Burlington; eight grandchildren; Branden Rheinschmidt, Heather Rheinschmidt, Taylor Vandenberg, Hayden Wilson, Kelsey Vandenberg, Natalie Vandenberg, Hayden Vandenberg and Amelia Vandenberg; two great-grandchildren Kyle and Daniel Rheinschmidt; and a nephew Jason Schmitz.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials be made out to Great River Hospice in Burlington.
A visitation will be held on Friday, Oct 6, 2017 from 8 AM to 10 AM with a graveside committal in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington following the visitation. Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
