Obituaries Thursday October 19th

Judy Chapman, 75, of New London, died Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at New London Specialty Care, New London.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday at Lowell Cemetery. Elliott Chapel, New London is in
charge of arrangements.

On October 17, 2017, Michael L. ” Mike” Marsden, 68, a lifelong resident of Dallas City, Illinois, and beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away at his residence at 4:12 p.m.
Mike was born in Tucson, AZ on November 7, 1948, the son of Paul and Thelma (Burrell) Marsden. Mike married Judy (Woods) Marsden, his wife of 48 years, on June 7, 1969 in Ft. Madison, IA.
Mike grew up and went to school in Dallas City, IL. He was a veteran of the US Army, and was stationed in Germany for two years. Mike served as an infantry radio mechanic for two years in the US Army, and then returned home at the end of his service. Mike also worked for JI Case in Burlington, IA, and retired in 2005. While working at JI Case, Mike worked as a painter, welder and a quality control inspector over the years. He, and his wife, also owned and operated the Tasti Korner in Dallas City, and enjoyed interacting with the local patrons over the years.
Mike enjoyed working outside with his family, doing building projects around the house and in his shop. In his younger days, he enjoyed riding motorcycles with his family, and brother George Marsden. Mike made several trips to visit his sister Mary Alice (Sid) Kranenburg of Fallsburg, CA, and enjoyed spending time with them in Mexico watching the whales swim by from their veranda. Mike was always supportive of his children and their endeavors, and was always there when they needed his guidance.
He is survived by his wife Judy, and two sons, Doug (Heather Nelson) Marsden of Wasilla, AK, and Rick (Amber Armitage) Marsden of Dallas City. He was a very proud grandfather of five grandchildren and four step-grandchildren. He is also survived by his four sisters, two brothers, and many nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.
He requested that there be no public service. He will be cremated, and the immediate family will be having a small service in his honor in the summer of 2018. Margaret (Marge) Ledbetter Hinman, 93, of Bartlett, TN. died at 10:43 AM Sunday, October 15, 2017, at the Methodist North Hospital in Memphis, TN.

Born January 5, 1924, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, she was the daughter of Archie and Gladys May Huffman Ledbetter. On July 1, 1944, she married Norman Virgil “Bud” Hinman in Burlington. He died June 11, 1993.

Marge worked at Midwest Cookie Factory, McKesson – Robbins and Burlington Care Center.

She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1942.

She was of Baptist faith. Marge enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crafts, playing bingo, and get togethers with her family.

Survivors include one daughter, Sheila (Terry) Brown of Bartlett, TN; one grandson, Bryan (Kristen) Brown of Mediapolis; two great grandchildren, Brystol David and Brylee Marlene Brown; three sisters, Thelma Hill of Burlington, Sandy (Denny) Hunter of Fort Madison, and Norma (Dick) Hedger of Sacramento, CA.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, James Ledbetter, Richard Ledbetter, Walter Ledbetter, Henry Ledbetter, Donnie Remaly, and Clifton Ledbetter, and two sisters, Joyce Snyder and Delores “Dee” Hayes.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The Graveside Committal Service for Mrs. Hinman will be 3:00 PM Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery with Chaplain Randy Gearhart officiating.
