Obituaries Monday October 30th

Jenefern H. ‘Jenny’ Lundvall, age 75, of rural Wapello, died Sunday morning, October 29, 2017, at her home with her family surrounding her. The daughter of Lewis and Hazel Marie Leinbach Bigger, she was born on June 1, 1942 in Burlington. Jenny graduated from Biggsville High School in 1960. She married Rodney Dowell in May of 1960. They later divorced. Jenny married Hallie LeRoy Lundvall on October 26, 1966 in Media, Illinois. He preceded her in death on October 26, 2005.

She had worked for Advanced Ross’s Electric in Burlington and later at the Wapello Salebarn restaurant and was a school bus driver for the Wapello Community School District for 23 years where she transferred multigeneration children with many of them calling her grandma.

Jenny was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed the Old Time Bus Drivers Breakfast Club. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, fishing, travelling and going to antique swap meets. Special for her were her grandkids and great grandkids.

Her family includes four children, Ross & Becky Dowell of Lincoln, Illinois, Reed & Merna Dowell of Wapello, Karen & Tom Heath of Oxford, and Lee ‘Tiger’ & Traci Lundvall of Wapello; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a brother, James & Verla Bigger of Media; a sister, Nola Talbot of Media; and three sisters-in-law, Norma Lee Bigger of Media, Ruth Claussen of Davenport, and Betty Lundvall of Glenwood. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hallie; and infant son, Bradley Lavern Dowell; and two brothers, Reldon Bigger and Gale Bigger.

The funeral ceremony for Jenny Lundvall will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello, officiated by longtime friend Rev. Chris Thomas. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery, rural Wapello. Friends may call from 3:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Memorial gifts will benefit the Great River Hospice and Home Health, the Pediatric Hospital Oncology of the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, and the Louisa County Public Health.

Isabelle L. Kobus , 96, of Burlington, died at 11:26 AM Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born July 10, 1921, in Grand Forks, ND, she was the daughter of Fred G and Virginia Bloomer Trosen. On August 31, 1940, she married John Joseph Kobus in Burlington. He died May 27, 1998.

Isabelle worked at IRC Register and the Ordinance Plant.

She graduated from Burlington High School in 1939.

She enjoyed bowling, traveling with her sisters, playing cards and reading.

Survivors include three sons, John A (Carol) Kobus of Ashdown, AR, Dennis (Sherry) Kobus of Hooks, TX, Dean (Jean) Kobus of San Antonio, TX; three grandchildren, Dean, Jr., Brandi, Jason; four great-grandchildren, Dan, Nathaniel, Caleb, Molly, and Meryl; one brother, Ray (Marty) Trosen of Burlington; two sisters, Alberta Hubbard of Little Rock, AR, Virginia (Vince) Clark of Pahrump, NV, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and three brothers.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

The memorial service for Mrs. Kobus will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Jim Trosen officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the burial.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

Connie J. Bridger, 66, of Swedesburg, formerly of Ottumwa, died October 26, 2017 at University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City. The family will receive friends from 3 – 5 PM, Nov. 4th at Elliott Chapel, New London. According to her wishes, cremation will follow the visitation. A memorial has been established to help with expenses.

Mable M. Webb, 89, of Burlington, died at 4:50 AM Saturday, October 28, 2017, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born May 13, 1928, in Midland, MI, she was the daughter of Verne and Cora Bell Heare VanStienburg. She married Edward D. Webb in Burlington. He later passed on October 15, 2010.

Mable worked for Riley Brothers from 1964 to 1977. She also worked for Auto Vending for five years.

She was a graduate of Burlington High School.

She enjoyed crocheting, camping, puzzle books, and her fur babies. She was a member of Hoot Owls camping club and FMCA.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon K. (Raymond) Barnes of Denmark, and Sarah J. (Jeremy) Shoemaker of La Harpe, IL; two sons, Dan D. (Rebecca) Webb, and Edward D. Webb, Jr. both of Burlington, IA; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, George H. VanStienburg of Lampasses, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Rose Hill and Clara Swailes.

The Graveside Committal Service for Mrs. Webb will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at Aspen Grove Cemetery with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating.

A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society and Great River Hospice House.

Norman H. Trautman, 88, of Burlington, died at 12:20 PM Thursday, October 26, 2017, at the Blair House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Burlington, IA.

Born June 20, 1929, in New Richmond, WI, he was the son of Edwin and Carol Bernd Trautmann. On June 4, 1955, he married Audrey Marie Wachter in Rosemount, MN, and they were married for 62 years.

Norm worked with Minneapolis Moline in Hopkins, MN as the parts pricing analyst, then project cost, then transferred as manager of the purchasing division. After 9 years with them the family moved to Winona, MN. They lived there for 37 years where Norm served with several firms and his final years were with Thern, Inc. as their purchasing manager. He retired in 1991.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War from April 18, 1951 until March 28, 1953.

While in Winona, MN he served in various service organizations and is a life member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and anything to do with working with his hands. He was an active sports fan. He also enjoyed reading and studying the Bible, and lead many Bible studies with High School and college students.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Nancy (Tim) Gilchrist of Burlington, IA; two sons Kenneth (Lynn) Trautmann of Cedar Falls, and Dean (Candida) Trautmann of Texas; nine grandchildren, Adam, Nathan, Heather, Christy, Rebekah, Katelin, Seth, Emily and David; five great-grandchildren, Norah, Vivian, Mary, Olivia, Jackson; two brothers, Bill (Cleo) Trautmann, and Floyd (Donna) Trautmann both of Eau Claire, WI; one sister, Carolyn (Ken) Wilkins of Rockford, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

The memorial service for Mr. Trautmann will be Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the West Burlington Christian Church at a time to be announced later. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Betty R. Eland , 83, of Burlington, died at 11:23 PM Friday, October 27, 2017, at the Danville Care Center.

She was born August 25, 1934, in Burnside, IL. On March 8, 1969, she married Edward Charles Eland in Las Vegas, NV.

She worked doing production in her early years at Schaffer Pen and Sylvania before becoming the full-time bookkeeper for Ed’s TV Sales and Service.

She enjoyed traveling and shopping for clothes. She enjoyed being outside, particularly sunbathing. She also liked to cook and bake. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and spoiling them, and enjoyed purchasing whacky Christmas presents for her family and friends. She had a great sense of humor and was very kind.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Frank (Michele) Kiener of Norwalk, IA; one daughter, Lana (Richard) Butler of Norfolk, VA; two step-daughters, Dawn Feder of Missouri, and Laurie (Steve) Rathbun of Wever, IA; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Maxine Cumalander of Fort Madison; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Samuel Kiener, and 10 siblings.

Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, Friday, November 3, 2017 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mrs. Eland will be 2:00 PM Friday, November 3, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Dean Graber officiating. Burial will be in Moss Ridge Cemetery at a later date.

A memorial has been established.

William Frank Krekel, 83, of Burlington, died at 5:42 PM Thursday, October 26, 2017, at the Blair House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.

Born January 20, 1934, in Burlington, he was the son of Kenneth J. and Ruth Krekel Edmark. On May 28, 1955, he married Carolee Ann Platt in Little Brown Church in Nashua.

William worked 32 years for Silas Mason, Mason and Hanger/American Ordinance, retiring in 1999.

He was a 1952 graduate of Burlington High School and received an AA Degree from Burlington Junior College in 1955.

He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and also a member of the Federal Order of Eagles #150, Ducks Unlimited, and BHS Booster Club. He was a Hawkeye’s, Vikings, and a Cardinals fan, also a supporter of the Burlington Grayhounds, never missing one of his kids’ or grandkids’ games. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and woodworking; leaving behind many pieces for his friends and family. He also enjoyed singing in a Barbershop Quartet, listening to Barbershop music, and playing the ukulele and banjo. But most of all, he enjoyed his kids, grandkids, and his family, which always came first.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, William W. (Heidi ) Krekel of Springfield, IL, and James J. (Isabel) Krekel of Burlington; one daughter, Kelley S. (Roger) Cooper of Burlington; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father (Sam Edmark) and one daughter (Stacey Ann).

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM, on Monday, October 30, 2017 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The memorial service for Mr. Krekel will be Monday, October 30, 2017, at 10:00 AM at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Ryan Cosgrove officiating. Private family burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Sandra Joan (Todd) Jarvis Thomas passed peacefully on Friday, October 27, 2017 at the Cave City Nursing Home.
Sandra was born on January 23, 1941 at her family’s home in Fort Madison, Iowa. She was the oldest of six children born to Roy Christopher and Cora Evelyn (Knight) Todd.

On October 25, 1959, she married Kenneth Dean Jarvis in Monmouth, Illinois. They celebrated the births of three children – Robin Jarvis of San Antonio, TX, Melony (Harold) Beck of Tuckerman, AR, and David (Judy) Jarvis of Cherokee Village, AR. They were blessed with four grandchildren – Alvin (Jamey) Jeffery of Nashville, TN, Bill (Taylor) Jeffery of Walnut Ridge, AR, Michael (Kristen) Jarvis of Batesville, AR, and Kristin Son of Cherokee Village, AR. Her great-grandchildren – Paxton Jarvis, Eleanor Jeffery and Bryer Barker – brought her great joy.

Sandra’s surviving siblings are Donald (Betty) Todd of Jonesboro, AR, Patricia Kreul of Light, AR, and Robert Todd of Monmouth, IL. Her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Barbara (Jarvis) Jack of LaHarpe, IL and sister-in-law, Marilyn (Boots) Jarvis also survive as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In July 2002, Sandra found a second chance at happiness and wed John Thomas of Jonesboro, AR. She was welcomed into his family by his siblings and their spouses. They had eight good years together.

Sandy loved spending time with her family and friends, almost as much as she loved to fish and hunt morel mushrooms! She also enjoyed midnight trips to Wal-Mart, especially with her grandchildren as well as spur-of-the-moment trips to Illinois to see family.
Sandra is predeceased by her parents, her siblings, Nancy Sue and LeRoy, her husbands, Kenneth and John, her daughter-in-law, Susan, and her in-laws – Rick, Clarence, Bob, and Carol.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. at the Banks and Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, Illinois followed by a graveside service at Noon in the Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery in Monmouth, Illinois.

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers are Sandra’s nephews: Kirk Huston, Carl Riedel, Rick Jarvis, Tim Jack, Dan Jack, Jeff Jarvis, Mark Todd, Chris Riedel, Robert Kreul, Jr., Allan Todd and Matt Huston.
