Obituaries Tuesday December 19th

Daniel “Dan” Hildenbrand, 77, of Burlington, died at 2:12 PM Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born August 25, 1940, in Des Moines, he was the son of Martin and Margaret Cooley Hildenbrand. On May 31, 1998, he married Lois Caroline Leavens in Newton, IA.

Daniel was a truck driver for Crete Carrier out of Nebraska.

He was a graduate of Des Moines High School.

He was of Baptist faith. He enjoyed watching football, along with listening to country western music; especially Johnny Cash. He also enjoyed watching westerns and was a NASCAR fan, particularly of Danny Hamlin (#11). He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Lois; one son, Daniel Martin Hildenbrand, Jr. of Tampa, FL; three daughters, Danita Torgenson of Tampa, FL, Bonnie Hildenbrand of Tampa, FL, and Kim Hildenbrand of Virginia; two step-sons, Frank Wilcox of Donna, TX, and Gerald Wilcox, Jr. of Newton, IA; four step-daughters, Barbra Doyle of Dyersburg, TN, Sheryl VanBaale of Newton, Melissa McConnell of Des Moines, IA, and Tina Dittmer of Newton, IA; 35 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren;two brothers, Robert Hildenbrand of Cedar Rapids, and Michael Hildenbrand of Ely, IA; two sisters, Nancy Jacobson of Cedar Rapids, and Diane Fleisher of ; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Mains.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

Daniel has donated his body to The University of Iowa, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Deeded Body Program, for medical research.

The memorial service for Mr. Hildenbrand will be 2:00 PM Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Chaplain Randy Gearhart officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City, Iowa at a later date.

A memorial has been established.

Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.

Delores M. Crowner, 68, of West Burlington, died 1:14 a.m. Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Great River Medical Center-ER.

Born June 26, 1949 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Herbert and Mildred (Brenneke) Oetken. She married Ron Crowner in 1969.

Delores graduated from Danville High School in 1967 and Southeastern Community College with her Associate’s Degree in Registered Nursing. She was a nurse working in Hospice and Palliative care until her retirement in 2015. She enjoyed cooking, taking her dogs to dog shows and especially loved Florida.

Delores was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church and The American Nursing Association.

Survivors include her son, Tim of West Burlington; Daughters, Martisa Light of Seaside, CA and Connie James of Hernando, FL; three brother in laws, three sister in laws; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

The Memorial service for Ms. Crowner will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 22, at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Randy Gearhart will officiate. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Thursday, December 21. There will be a luncheon at The Eagles Club following services. Cremation has been accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Des Moines County Humane Society.

Robert J. Bowman Sr., 77, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of New London, died 10:35 a.m., Saturday, December 16, 2017 at his son’s residence.

Born May 6, 1940 in Burlington, he was the son of Harold Joseph Sr. and Esther May (McGinity) Bowman. He married Linda Lee Allen. They later divorced.

For most of his life Mr. Bowman was a mechanic working on transmissions. He also worked at Pak-A-Way. His hobbies included fixing bikes, fishing, building motors in his Dad’s basement and Nascar.

Survivors include his children; Robert J. (Janelle aka Jenny) Bowman Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, Crystal (Tom) Brown of Winfield, Candy (Scott) Christofferson of Mt. Union, Tammy Bowman of Burlington, Rory Judd of Disco, IL, Roxanne (Bill) Langer of TN, Ronita (Paul) Berg, James (Debbie) Pulse, Jerry (Amy) Pulse, Joe Pulse, and special friend, Esther Teel, all of Monmouth, IL; Thirty six grandchildren; forty five great grandchildren; three brothers, Richard Bowman and Harold J. Bowman Jr., of Burlington, and Jerry Bowman of Olewein; one sister, Margaret Krieger of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one daughter.

The memorial service for Mr. Bowman will be 3:00 p.m., Thursday, December 21 at Lunning Chapel. Chaplain Don Combs will officiate. Family will receive friends Thursday, December 21, 1:30 p.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove at a later date. Cremation has been accorded.

A memorial has been established.
