Robert Henry Morse, 85, of Burlington, died 4:20 p.m. Monday, January 29, 2018 at the Pioneer Park in Lone Tree, Iowa.
Born on December 22, 1932 in Burlington, he was the son of Fred and Mary Agnes (Moyer) Morse. He married Judith Lee Davis, May of 1958 in Burlington.
Robert was a Union Plumber and Pipefitter for many years. He was a member of Plumber and Pipefitter Union # 212 and attended the Open Bible Church. He was an Army veteran.
Robert was an all-state running back for the BHS, 1952 football team, which was the number one football team in the state that year.
Robert was a great man, husband, dad and grandpa. He loved to travel all over the United States, either in his Winnebago or on his Gold Wing motorcycle. One of his favorite locations was the Grand Canyon. He loved bicycling as well, and even drove the Bickel’s Bicycle bus for RAGBRAI. He loved to craft and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife Judith Morse of Burlington; one daughter, Lynn Loan of Iowa City; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother, Delbert (JudyAnn) Morse of Burlington; one sister Dorothy Smith of Burlington; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter Cynthia Stambaugh.
The funeral service for Mr. Morse will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 2nd at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. JudyAnn Morse will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 1st at Lunning Chapel.
According to his wishes, cremation will be accorded following the funeral service. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Purple and Gray Foundation.
The funeral service for Bibiano Kendo Maganda, 25, will be 2:00 PM Friday at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM with the family to receive friends from noon until 2:00 PM Friday at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. A memorial has been established for his daughters.
Harold B. “Woody” Woodruff, 90, of Burlington, died 6:55 p.m., Monday, January 29, 2018 at Great River Hospice House.
Born January 29, 1928 in Wyman, IA, he was the son of Rexford and Vivian (Boden) Woodruff. He married Peachie Buchanan in 1947. They later divorced. He married Martha Baker in 1956. She preceded him in death in 1985. He married Marilyn Blessing Acord on January 18, 1986 in Burlington.
He was a self-employed contractor and farmer. He worked for Standard of Beaverdale for seventeen years until his retirement in 1992. He graduated in the class of 1945 in Columbus Junction and served in the U.S. Army. He was a founding member of First Assembly of God Church in Burlington. He had many hobbies including reading westerns, remodeling, mushroom-hunting, going to Golden Oldies and Hy-Vee for Bingo, and spending time with his family and friends (especially his grandchildren). He had a great sense of humor and loved playing cards, SCC basketball games, and University of Iowa sports.
Survivors include his wife Marilyn; thirteen children, Kitty Woodruff of West Burlington, Mick (Gina) Woodruff of Oakville, Mark (Debbie) Woodruff of Packwood, Tim Woodruff of Iowa City, Teresa (Jon) Simkins of Normal, IL, Rebecca (Bill) Baird of West Des Moines, Ronda (James) Redd of Burlington, Nancy Steveson of Marshalltown, Sharon (Jerry) Neff of Burlington, David (Barb) Acord of Mediapolis, Diane (Blake) Scott of Burlington, Rick (Pam) Acord of Olathe, KS and Marc (Mary) Acord of Overland Park, KS; thirty nine grandchildren; forty five great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a brother Tom (Doris) Woodruff of Coralville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Martha; three sisters, Charlene, Shirley and Dorothy; one brother, Delbert; one grandson; and one great grandson.
The funeral service for Mr. Woodruff will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 2, 2018 at First Assembly of God Church. Pastor Scott Collier will officiate. Military rites will be accorded by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Family will receive friends 5-7 p.m., Thursday, February 1, at Lunning Chapel. Friends may call after noon on Thursday.
Memorials have been established for Golden Oldies and Troop 15 Boy Scouts.
