Carol Ann Kershner, 78, of Burlington, died at 3:54 AM Friday, February 16, 2018, in Burlington.
Born July 31, 1939, in Washington, IA, she was the daughter of Raymond Leslie and Clara Beatrice Stone Baker. On December 21, 1963, she married Arthur Monroe Kershner in Burlington.
Carol’s first job was at Montgomery Wards in Burlington, where she was introduced to Arthur Kershner, by her boss, Leona Kershner (Arthur Kershner’s mother). Carol owned and operated her own pet-grooming business for 47 years, loved working at Donut Land and later worked at Mediapolis Vet Clinic and Vista Bakery.
She graduated from West Chester High School in West Chester, IA in May of 1957.
She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. She loved her family, all animals, and quilting. She especially loved going to family gatherings, and going to Florida in the spring, and Colorado in the fall. She also enjoyed walking outdoors and at Westland Mall. She loved her Iowa Hawkeyes and Denver Broncos football teams.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur; six sons, Steve Kershner, Chuck (Sue) Kershner, Les Kershner, Randy Kershner, Wayne (Teesa) Kershner, and Gerald (Becky) Kershner all of Burlington; two daughters, Lisa (Robert “Bob”) Lies of Key Largo, FL, and Shannon (Shane) Mostashiry of Parker, CO; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Karen (Everett) Speas of Waco, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceeded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be Monday, February 19, 2018 from 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mrs. Kershner will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at Burlington First Assembly with Reverend Don Crawford officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Burlington First Assembly of God following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Great River Hospice, the Alzheimer’s Association, and the Des Moines County Animal Shelter.

Jane Elaine McCleary, age 66, of Morning Sun, died at her home on Thursday, February 15, 2018. The daughter of Waldo Edwin ‘Honk’ and Florence Rebecca ‘Sis’ Proctor Davis, she was born on December 8, 1951 in Agency. Jane married Tom McCleary on September 5, 1970 in Grandview.
She graduated from L & M High School in 1970 and attended Community College classes to receive her administration certification. Jane worked as an administrator for the Hamilton County Care Facility and Louisa County Care Facility and then at the Morning Sun Clinic.
Jane was a member of the Order of Eastern Star # 257 of Wapello. Her greatest enjoyment was her grandchildren along with camping, fishing, and the fair livestock shows.
Her family includes her husband, Tom; a son, Bryan & Traci McCleary of Wapello; a daughter, Angie & Jay Malone of Morning Sun; four grandchildren, Drake McCleary, Nick McCleary, Jayce Malone, and Jobey Malone; a sister, Sharon Marnholtz of Warrensburg, Missouri; and a brother, Kevin & Sharon Davis of Muscatine. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother, Betty Davis; a brother Darrell Davis; a sister, Lisa Schneider; and a brother-in-law, Herb Marnholtz.
A Celebration of Life gathering is planned for Monday, February 19, beginning at 5:00 PM with a meal to follow at the Morning Sun Community Building. Chaplain Don Combs will share.
A General Memorial Fund has been established.
