Mrs. Leona H. Wegener, 92 of Burlington, died 5:08 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Blair House in Burlington.
Born on December 9, 1925 at her grandparents home in Mediapolis, she was the daughter of Antone and Sadie (Luecking) Nickelson. She married Mark H. Wegener on August 10, 1947 at First United Church of Christ in Burlington.
Leona worked as a registered nurse in Iowa City and Burlington. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1943 and Burlington Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She attended First United Church of Christ and St. Luke United Church of Christ. She helped start Girl Scouts in West Burlington. She was a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader for 3 years. She was active in many clubs and organizations including; the Big Sister Program, Choir for 40 years, Director of the Youth Choir, member of Burlington Women’s Club, Historical Society Board Member, Jane A. Delano Club, treasurer of St. Luke UCC Sarah Circle and Chairman of the medical Memorial at Phelps House, which opened in 1990. She also started summer camperships for band students going to Kirksville and Iowa City. She loved being outdoors and having a special time with the grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband Mark; children, Dan (Joan) Wegener of New London, IA, Nan (Jerry) Wegener Oliver of San Antonio, TX and Randy (Dori) Wegener of Lone Jack, MO; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Glenn “Barney” Nickelson.
The funeral service for Mrs. Wegener will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 26th at First United Church of Christ. Pastor JudyAnn Morse will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice, First United Church of Christ and St. Luke United Church of Christ. Lunning Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Beverly JoAnne Brent, age 74, passed away on Friday, March 23rd, 2018, peacefully at her home. She was born in Burlington, IA, at the Burlington Hospital on December 16th, 1943. She was the daughter of Archie Leroy Morris and Mary Eileen (Davis) Morris. She married Donald Ray Brent on July 11th, 1964, at the Methodist Church in Stronghurst, IL.
Beverly graduated from Stronghurst High School in 1962. She then attended Burlington Business School and was employed by the Henderson County ASCS office in Stronghurst, IL. She resigned this position to attend College of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas, and graduated from there in 1970. Beverly then returned to Stronghurst where she taught 2nd and 3rd grade for 32 years.
Beverly was a member of the Stronghurst Christian Church, Retired Teachers’ Association, Alpha Rho Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, and Chapter NI of Philanthropic Educational Organization. She loved gardening, bird watching, and playing bridge with her friends, but Bev’s greatest joy was her family. She dedicated her life to giving, sharing, and spending each moment she had with her children and grandchildren, ensuring their well-being in all areas of their life.
Survivors include her husband Don Brent, twin sons, Lonnie (Brenda) Brent of Kirkwood, IL, Rodney (Amanda) Brent of Gladstone, IL, one daughter Natalie (Tyler) Blindt of Gladstone, IL; 14 grandchildren-Brandon, Madeline, Mitchell, Jackson, Spencer, Grace, Preston, Logan, Emily, Matthew, Molly, Lucas, Lilly, Sophia; brothers Donald Morris of Ogden, Iowa, Kenneth Morris of Stronghurst, IL, one sister Ruth (John) Bickell of Burlington, IA, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother-Jerry Wayne, and one grandson Landon Michael Brent.
The funeral service for Mrs. Brent will be at 10AM on Thursday, March 29th, at the Stronghurst Christian Church with Rev. Steve Minkler officiating. The family will meet with friends from 5PM-7PM on Wednesday, March 28th, at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, IL. Burial will be in the Biggsville Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the Stronghurst Christian Church.

Phyllis M. Cole, 83, of Media, Illinois passed away at 8:41 p.m. Thursday March 22, 2018 at OSF Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. She was born April 18, 1934 in Media, the daughter of Floyd and Gladys Littrel Link. On March 25, 1951, she married Charles Cole in Burlington, Iowa.
Phyllis was a graduate of Media-Wever High School, and a lifetime resident of Media. Besides being a full time mother to four sons, she was co-owner of, and an integral part of the operation of, Cole Implement Company, in Media, for many years.
Survivors include her husband, three sons, Larry (Christine) Cole of Davenport, IA, Ed (Karen) Cole of Gladstone, IL, Mike (Terri) Cole of Stronghurst, one daughter in law, Kathy Cole of Media, IL, seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and one brother, Kenneth Link, of Tempe, AZ.
She was preceded in death by one son, Donald Cole, two great grandchildren, Collin Cole and Jackson Gipe, four brothers, William, Glen, Harvey, and Charles Link, and three sisters, Laura Link, Louise Cole, and Luella Bowen.
Visitation will be from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday March 26, 2018 at Banks & Beals with Pastor Phil Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Walnut Grove Cemetery near Media.
