Grace Alice Myers, 82, of Burlington, died at 7:45 AM Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at the Blair House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Born August 16, 1933, in Slater, WY, she was the daughter of Arvel Dwight and Sarah Mabel Meeker Burhans. On April 20, 1952, she married Paul Thomas Myers in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They later divorced.
In the early years she worked at Van’s Lunch Box, Sylvania Electric, and Winegard Antenna #3 Plt. in Burlington. She worked at the Good Samaritan Home in Davenport as a CNA and later as assistant activity director. In 1986 she moved back to the area to work as a cook at the Danville Care Center.
She attended a one room schoolhouse from first grade through fourth grade in Wyoming. She walked two and half miles a day to school in the fall, winter and spring. Sometimes she walked on top of the snow drifts while walking to school. She attended Oak Street Junior High.
She had a deep concern for the needs of others. She helped many friends in her faith by taking them shopping, to funerals, doctors, Bible studies and sometimes sewing and cooking for them or reading the newspaper. She loved to visit friends and family in other cities. She missed her Wyoming rocks and mountains with sheep and cattle, that was her country as a little girl. She enjoyed her friends and families pets and she claimed them as her own. She truly looked for God’s hands in her words and actions. She wrote poems about others, the weather and the 2000 census she worked on. She made quilts and mended many pairs of jeans. She enjoyed art, sewing and cooking classes and making cards.
