Frances Doreen Rector, 97, of Burlington, formerly of Mediapolis, died at 10:57 PM Saturday, August 13, 2022 at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born December 23, 1924, in Melrose, IA she was the daughter of Tom and Annie Grogan Navin. On August 5, 1946, she married Ivan L Rector in Des Moines Iowa. He died on November 9, 2019.
Doreen worked in different offices. The longest at A.S.C.S. office in Fairfield, IA.
She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington. She enjoyed her family, music, playing cards, and crocheting.
Survivors include three sons, Dan (Cindy) Rector of Ankeny, IA Dean (Pat) Rector of Marion, IA, and Joe (Kim) Rector of West Burlington, IA; one daughter, Nancy (Jim) Davenport of Storm Lake, IA; nine grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by three sisters, and one brother.
Visitation will begin with a Rosary Service from 9:30 AM until 10:00 AM and the family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Divine Mercy Parish SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Rector will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Divine Mercy Parish SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church with Very Rev. Fr. Marty Goetz as the celebrant. A Time of food and fellowship will be held in the SS Mary and Patrick Cafeteria following the service. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery following the luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Saint Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.

Sharon Kay (Eckrich) Skerik, 83, of Coralville, Iowa, entered eternal life on August 7th at the Bird House in Iowa City after a long illness. The beloved mother of Sarah and Joe, Sharon was predeceased by her parents, William and Lucille Eckrich of Iowa City, and her husband of 38 years, Joseph F. Skerik III of Burlington.
Born December 10, 1938, Sharon attended the old Coralville school, St. Mary’s school in Iowa City, and graduated from Iowa City City High School in 1956. In 1960, she graduated with a bachelor’s of science degree from the University of Iowa, and practiced occupational therapy.
On March 16, 1968, Sharon married J. Skerik at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. The couple moved to Burlington, Iowa, and raised two children.Sharon enjoyed a variety of interests, including history, family genealogy, playing bridge, gardening and homemaking. She was a member of SS John and Paul Catholic Church in Burlington, and St. Mary’s in Iowa City.
Sharon is survived by her brother, Dick Eckrich of Wichita, KS, her children, Sarah Skerik Reschly (Blake) of Libertyville, IL, and Joseph F. Skerik IV (Michelle), and two grandchildren, Joseph and Genevieve Skerik, of Tucson.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Skerik will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul’s Catholic Church with Rev. James Flattery as the Celebrant. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Brent Wheeler, 62, of Perry, IA, formerly of Burlington died Thursday, August 11, 2022, at home.
Born November 16, 1959, in Burlington, he was the son of Charles Wayne and Carol J Purdum Wheeler.
He was a graduate of Burlington Community High School.
Brent was a man that loved his family. He respected and loved his mother, was a best friend to his sister and “the greatest uncle” ever according to his nieces. Referred to as Be, his favorite activities included cards with his family, Marvel movies, and football. His family of 17 could each individually tell you their favorite activity and memory of time spent with Uncle Be.
Survivors include his mother, Carol J Wheeler of Perry; brother, Jeff (Carol) Wheeler of Altoona; sister, Jackie McCord of Perry; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Wayne Wheeler and brother, Lonny James Wheeler.
The funeral service for Mr. Wheeler will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at Prugh’s Chapel, 317 North 4th St. Burlington with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ronald Lee Casey, 80, of Oquawka, died Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at his home.
Born November 15, 1941, in Aurora , IL, he was the son of Levi Thomas and June Eileen Meyer Casey. On February 6, 1963, he married Bonnie M. Lyerla in Aurora, IL. Bonnie passed on September 26, 2013.
Ronald worked for Maytag for over 30 years until his retierment. He later owned and operated “Little Brothers Place” in Oquawka, Illinois with his wife.
Ronnie was a member of the First Christian Church in Keithsburg, Illinois. He volunteered for the Oquawka Fire Department driving the Ambulance. He loved to travel, fish, camp, and his pets. He was the kind of man that knew no strangers and would give the shirt off of his back to help anyone. He especially loved visiting with family and spending time with them. The yearly family reunion was very important to him and he would always volunteer to help in anyway.
Survivors include two sons, Billy (Marie) Casey of Roscoe, IL, and Matthew (Michelle) Casey of Dexter, IA; two daughters, Tammy (Mike) Knapp of Joy, IL, and Shawna (Abe) Weeks of Keithsburg, IL; 10 grandchildren, Andy (Ashley), Bethany, Tim (Beth), Danielle (Nathaniel), Adam (Morgan), Nick (Kris), Kerstin, Alexandria, Jessica, and Kristine: 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Bud (Carol) Casey of Oquawka, IL; and sister-in-law, Wanda Casey of Oquawka, IL.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Lee Casey; three brothers Joseph, Larry, and Terry; two sisters Ramona (Richard) Wilson, and Gwen (Bill) Forrester.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM with the family to receive friends on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at First Christian Church in Keithsburg, IL.
The funeral service for Mr. Casey will be 10:00 AM Saturday, August 20, 2022, at First Christian Church in Keithburg, IL. Burial will be in Oquawka Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Mamas Place in Oquawka, IL following the burial.

David Smith Miller was born September 10, 1942 in La Harpe, Illinois to Harold W. “Biz” Miller and Helen Louise Smith Miller, and he passed away August 14, 2022 at Rushville, Illinois Nursing and Rehab Center from Cancer of the Kidney.
His first marriage was to Patricia Baujan and they were the parents of 3 sons: Eric, Kevin and Jarrod. David married Suzanne Eppley Donaldson February 27, 1976 at Durham United Methodist Church.
In his childhood he attended Elm Grove country school near his home, and he was a graduate of La Harpe High School in 1960. While in high school he played football and was a trumpeter in the band, receiving the John Philip Sousa Award. He attended Parsons College for 3 years and was lead trumpeter in their band. David also graduated from SCC in West Burlington, Iowa.
His places of employment included J. I. Case Company in Burlington, Iowa, his father’s grocery store in La Harpe (Hamilton & Miller), La Harpe Hospital, Schwan’s Sales Enterprises, Milstead Electric, and he owned his own archery shop. In his late years he worked at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Macomb until he was unable to do so.
David loved being in the woods, deer hunting, squirrel hunting, coon hunting, etc., as well being an avid fisherman. He shot in world archery competition, was a good bowler and obtained many awards in pool competition being in several leagues. He was also a St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Surviving are his wife, Suzanne, sons Eric (Krisa) of Burlington, Iowa, Kevin (Tamara) of Dallas City, Illinois, Jarrod (Jen) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and step-daughter, Kim (Jon) Barr of Carthage. Grandchildren are David Miller, Ashlyn Miller, Alexis (Trevor) Meierotto, and step-granddaughter, Kaila (Jacob) Rowland. Step great grandchildren are Aria and Briella Rowland. Also surviving are his sister, Sara (Sam) McGrew, sister-in-laws Sylvia Eppley, and Dianne (Greg) Blythe, mother-in-law, Gladys Eppley, as well as nieces and nephews and cousins.
David was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, and sister, Martha Rude, father-in-law, George Eppley, and brother-in-law, Dennis Eppley.

Suzanne C. Bloomer, 67, of Burlington, died Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born September 13, 1954, in Omaha, NE, she was the daughter of Kenneth P. and Nina M. Gibbs Johnson. On August 6, 1997, she married Gerald “Jerry” Lee Bloomer in Hot Springs, SD.
She was a psychology, sociology, and English teacher for the state of South Dakota for 17 years and a prevention specialist on a South Dakota Reservation.
Suzanne was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Burlington and the Phi Kappa Honor Society. She enjoyed art and fishing.
Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Gerald “Jerry” Lee Bloomer; daughter, Stephanie (Frank) Garneaux of Grisham, OR; two grandchildren, Kain and Daniel Garneaux; father, Kenneth P. Johnson of Manhattan, KS; step-son, Ken (Sandra) Bloomer; step-daughter, Julie (Matt) Martineau of Mediapolis; step-grandchildren, Amanda Shafer, Logan Cooper, Colin and Hailey Bloomer; brother, Daniel James (Linda) Johnson of Bettendorf; sister, Laurie Johnson of Manhattan, KS; and four nephews, Hunter Bagby, Aaron, Jeremy and Brad Johnson.
She was preceded in death by mother.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Gordon Gene Martin, 69, of Augusta, died Sunday, August 14, 2022 at his home. He was born June 24, 1953 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Walter and Mildred Louise Pender Martin. He was a 1971 graduate of Fort Madison High School and worked in the drafting department at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown for 14 years, then retired from maintenance after 21 years at WalMart Warehouse in Mount Pleasant. He enjoyed gardening and canning, and tractors. He was a member of the Burlington Antique Car Club, and his pride and joy was his Model A that he purchased when he was 19 years old and drove every year to Hamilton, Illinois to the Western Illinois Threshers.
He is survived by his brother Robert Martin of Fort Madison, brother-in-law Gary Stinson of Fort Madison, nephews Tom (Shannon) Stinson of Wever, Shane and Shawn Martin of Fort Madison, Mike Martin of Denver, Colorado, and nieces Stefanie Stinson Westermeyer of Fort Madison and Jessica Stinson of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Vicki Stinson and sister-in-law Linda Martin.
Friends may call after 9:00 a.m. on Friday, August 19, at Elliott Chapel, New London, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to an 11:00 a.m. service with Pastor David Mixon officiating.
