Obituaries for Friday September 16th

Katherine Eileen Wilkerson Kleinkopf, 89, of Danville, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at the Klein Center in West Burlington, IA.
Eileen was born May 19, 1933 at her parent’s home in rural New London, IA. She was the daughter of Fred and Fern Stout Wilkerson.
She attended a one room school house, Snyder, then went on to graduate from Danville High School in 1952. She was a member of the Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Pleasant Grove.
On April 11, 1954 she married Ralph Kleinkopf at the Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Pleasant Grove with Rev. James Garrett officiating; and they celebrated 68 years of marriage. After her children were all in school, she worked in the Human Resource Department at the IAAP for 26 years. Retiring February 28, 1995.
Eileen was family-oriented as she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She had many memories of family gatherings growing up on the farm, which then continued at their home in Middletown. Eileen enjoyed playing cards (pinochle), which became a Kleinkopf family tradition. She made many quilts and fleece throws; along with quillows for the church missions. During the holidays, Eileen enjoyed baking Christmas cookies.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph Kleinkopf of Danville, IA; two sons, Ronald (Mimi) Kleinkopf and family of Pine City, MN, David (Peggy) Kleinkopf and family of Danville, IA.; two daughters, twins, Karolyn (Bill) Crawford and family of Winfield, IA., Karen (Kirk) Soukup and family of Middletown, IA; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; one brother Fritz Wilkerson of Burlington, IA.; and one sister, Becky (Terry) Rodeffer of West Burlington, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Fern Wilkerson; son, Mark; infant daughter, Kimberly and sister, Janet Asmus.
According to Eileen’s wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Pleasant Grove. Rev. Shane McCampbell will be officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Following the service, inurnment will be at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery, Burlington, IA.

Gene A. Krenz, 78, of Burlington, IA, stopped golfing on Monday, September 12, 2022, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

Born April 4, 1944, in Waterloo, IA, he was the son of Gerald and Bernice Krenz. On June 15, 1968, he married Debbie Ehlers in Iowa City, Iowa.

Gene received his Bachelor’s Degree in finance from Drake University.

He was in banking his whole life and retired as the President of First National Bank in 1992.

Gene was a C & E member of First Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Rotary Club, YMCA Board, Girl Scout Board, and Burlington Golf Club. He enjoyed golfing, farming, playing Pitch and working in the yard. Gene loved to spend winters in Florida and spend time with his daughters and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Debbie Krenz; two daughters, Kari Krenz-Downey (Blane Peterson) of Portland, OR, and Stacie Woods (Dennis) of Seattle, WA; four grandchildren, Rae and Claire Downey, Maya and Sienna Woods.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Krenz.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The memorial service at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home is pending.

A memorial has been established for the Burlington Golf Club.

Chris Nichols, 68, of Burlington, died Sunday, September 4, 2022, at the Iowa City VA Medical Center in Iowa City.

Born October 24, 1953, in Oskaloosa, IA, he was the son of Dean Nichols and Josephine Hamilton Fageol.

He received his bachelor of art degree from Central University, majoring in Physics and receiving minors in Chemistry and Mathematics.

He was a U.S. Marines Veteran, serving from June 24, 1977 until October 1, 1983. He was also a U.S. Navy Veterans, serving from February 02, 1987 until August 15, 1996.

Chris worked in aerospace engineering and research and served a combined 16 years in the United States Navy and Marine Corps.

Chris was a member of the Naval Reserve Association, Marine Corps League- Hamilton Walters Detachment, International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE), American Institute of Physics (SPS), Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, American Chemical Society, U.S. Naval Institute, Naval Helicopter Association, Sons of the American Revolution, and CircleK; a college student affiliate of the Kiwanis. He enjoyed being outside playing tennis, going on runs, skiing, swimming, camping, hiking, bicycling, and most other outdoor activities. Chris enjoyed model building, woodworking and refurbishing antiques. He especially loved playing guitar and flying.

Survivors include his mother, Josephine Fageol; daughter, Jennifer A. (Kevin) Talley of Burlington; son, Robert C. Nichols of Mt Pleasant; four siblings, Mary (Tom) Bowen of Yarmouth, Jim Fageol of Burlington, Gigi (Tony) Robertson of Burlington, and Kelly Fageol of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his father and uncle Jim Nichols.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends Friday, September 16, 2022 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mr. Nichols will be 10:00 AM Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Christ Episcopal Church with Father Carl Mann officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.

Memorials can be made to Toys for Tots and Marine Corps League in Chris’s name.
