Obituaries Friday March 3rd

Arlene Ferguson , 87, of Burlington, died at 1:30 AM Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at the Blair House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.

 

Born August 25, 1929, in West Burlington, she was the daughter of Paul and Lessie Bult. On August 30, 1947, she married Kenneth Warren Ferguson in Keokuk. He passed away on May 31, 2016.

 

She was a graduate of Burlington High School.

 

Arlene worked for Burlington Central Bag and Burlap, assisted her sister in a restaurant business at the Lincolnville Cafe and a catering business for Champion Spark Plug, and also worked at Apollo and Burlington High School food service.

 

She was of the Protestant faith. Arlene took great pride in tending her beautiful flower gardens and vegetable gardens. She shared a love of animals with her husband, Kenny, and they had many beloved pets over the years. Arlene made many beautiful quilts, crocheted afghans, and doilies and was an excellent cook. She enjoyed going to Quarter Horse shows and camp-outs with Kenny and Sherry. Arlene and Kenny enjoyed fishing and camping with friends and family at Lake Geode, the Skunk and Mississippi Rivers, and spending time at Dave and Sherry’s cabin.

 

Survivors include her daughter, Sherry Lynn (David) Zeller of Burlington; one granddaughter, Jessie (Mike) Zeller-Werle of North Liberty; and one great-granddaughter, Alexis Werle of North Liberty; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Herbert Bult and Lester Bult; and two sisters, Betty Patton and Fern Jones.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

 

A private graveside committal service will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.

 

Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice House and the Des Moines County Humane Society.

 

Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.

 

Venceslaus “Walter” Reneson 95, of Danville, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at New London Specialty Care.

According to his wishes, Mr. Reneson has been cremated.  A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Elliott Chapel, New London.  Pastor Dean Graber will officiate.  Inurnment will be held in Pleasant Grove Cemetery of Henry County with full military honors by the Henry County Honor Guard.  Visitation with the family present will be held from 1:00 PM until time of the service on Saturday.  Memorials have been established to the New London Specialty Care Activity Program and Great River Hospice.

Kevin Scott Martin, 53, of Burlington, died at 11:31 AM Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Phoenix after battling leukemia for a few years..

 

Born September 15, 1963, in Burlington, he was the son of Thomas Owen and Karen A. Gardner Martin.

 

Kevin enjoyed fishing, pheasant hunting, camping, and mushroom hunting.

 

Survivors include his mother, Karen A. Martin of Burlington; two brothers, Marcus (Amy) Martin and Tracy (Jenny) Martin both of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

 

The private family graveside committal service and inurnment will be held Friday March, 3, 2017 at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

 

Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
