Mary Jane Mattson, 98, of Fort Madison, died at 7:25 PM Saturday, March 4, 2017, at the Fort Madison Community Hospital.

 

Born February 18, 1919, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Charles and Ada Shoemaker. On December 23, 1941, she married Edgar Paul Mattson in Schuyler County, Missouri. He passed away on September 1, 1996.

 

She attended Burlington High School.

 

Mary Jane was a dedicated employee of Winegard for over 30 years.

 

She enjoyed taking walks, biking, fishing, doing crossword puzzles, sewing, needlepoint, and always had a great sense of fashion.

 

Survivors include her two daughters, Judith and her husband, Tony Walz of Fort Madison and Paulette Swanson of Albuquerque, NM; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her three sons, David C. Mattson, Gary D. Mattson, and Steven K. Mattson; one daughter, Lana Faye Mattson, two brothers, Joseph and Gerald Shoemaker.

 

The Graveside Committal Service for Mrs. Mattson will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Burlington Memorial Park.

 

A memorial has been established.

Larry W. Miller, 72, New London, died Sunday, March 5, 2017 at New London Specialty Care.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 10 at Elliott Chapel, New London.

Pastors Rod Cooper and Nathan Cooper will officiate.

Visitation will begin at noon Thursday, at the chapel with the family present to greet friends from

5:00 – 7:00 PM.  A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.

 

Mary Elizabeth Allen, 93, of Dallas City, IL passed away at 12:44 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2017 at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center in LaHarpe.

Mary was born on May 17, 1923 in Roseville, IL the daughter of Ora D. and Alma Marie Jackson Manuel. On October 12, 1947 she married G. Phillip Allen in Avon, IL. He preceded her in death on March 12, 2007.

Mary was a graduate of Avon High School and Western Illinois University in Macomb, where she was a member of the Green Door Drama Club and sang in Women’s Chorus. She was an elementary school teacher in Ferris, IL, Lomax, IL, and Dallas City. She retired in 1986 after 20 years as an educator.

Mary was active in community theater, performing with the Hancock County Theater, Hamilton, IL; Old Fort Players and Paddle Wheel Players, Fort Madison, IA; and Players Workshop, Burlington, IA.

She also loved to sing, performing as a soloist and in numerous ensembles and choruses. Mary was a member of her church choir and was director of the youth choir. She performed with Sarah Smith in gospel concerts and with an album, “Catch the Spirit.”

Mary was a member of the Dallas City United Methodist Church, serving on the Administrative Council and holding numerous other offices. She later became a member of the Colusa United Methodist Church.

She was a leader of Brownie and Girl Scout Troop and served as librarian of the former Dallas City Library.

For a number of years she was a membership campaign worker for the Burlington Civic Music Association and the Fort Madison Community Concert Association.

Mary was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an organization of women educators.

Mary provided valuable help at the Dallas City Enterprise, published by her husband Phil and his parents, George and Edith Allen.

Mary was an avid reader of mysteries, she corrected many errors in the books, thanks to her proof reading skills. Mary was proud of her Native American ancestry and contributed to several Native American schools.

Mary also volunteered as a teacher’s aide, working one-on-one with third grade reading. She was a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association and the Hancock County Retired Teachers Association. Mary was happy to see the Cubs win the World Series in her Lifetime. She and Phil were big fans.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia (Ben) Allen-Stewart of Galena, IL and Marie (Ken) Allen of Chicago, IL, two sons, Andrew (Felice) Allen of Chicago, IL and Anthony (Jane) Allen of Lyons, WI, five grandchildren, one brother, Odette Bultemeier of Little Swan Lake, IL and several nieces and nephews.

She was proceded in death by her husband and one brother, James Manuel.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with David Poland officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Harris Cemetery near Dallas City. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Colusa United Methodist Church or Blessing Hospice. Ellen Joyce Wiemer, 84, of Burlington, died at 12:18 PM Friday, March 3, 2017, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

 

Born February 18, 1933, in Charles City, IA, she was the daughter of Elmer Nelson and Iva Lottman Rutledge. On July 18, 1954, she married Paul Wayne Wiemer in Charles City, IA.  He died on October 12, 2004.

 

Ellen worked for Champion Spark Plugs for 34 years.

 

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She was a member of Duck’s Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and the Foundation of North American Wild Sheep. She enjoyed word find, gardening, gambling at the casino, traveling, vacationing, bird and deer watching.

 

Survivors include her daughter, Tina Renee (Dan) Savage of Burlington; three grandchildren, James (Ann) Vaghan of Des Moines, Tasha Runnells of Burlington, and Allan (Racheal) Runnells of North Liberty; her caretaker, Denise Peal of Burlington; her dog, Shadow; and her granddog, Pearl.

 

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Kimberly A. Vaghan, one brother, Earl Rutledge, and one sister, Ruth Hollensteiner

 

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, March 6, 2017 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The funeral service for Mrs. Wiemer will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Hermansen officiating.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

 

Memorials have been established for Bethany Lutheran Church and the Des Moines County Humane Society.

Genna Eileen Webster, 30, of Burlington, died at 2:20 PM Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

 

Born July 31, 1986, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Kenneth D. and Kelly Coffin Floyd. On February 26, 2011, she married Bradley J. Webster in Lomax Christian Church.

 

She graduated from Burlington High School in 2005. She attended Southeastern Community College and Kirkwood Community College.

 

Genna worked for La Tavola and provided in-home daycare.

 

She was of the Episcopal faith. She loved her dog, Dolly, enjoyed spending time with the children she took care of, and hanging out with friends, but most of all, Genna loved spending time with her two girls.

 

Survivors include her husband, Bradley; two daughters, Olive Jo Webster and Oaklee Faye Webster; her father, one brother, George (Tracy) Floyd of Burlington; paternal grandmother, Eileen Floyd of Burlington; aunts and uncles, Kathleen (Drake) DeLang of Burlington, Kris (Michelle) Floyd of Burlington, Kristi (Jerry) Huffman of Burlington, Kim (Don) Johnson of O’Fallon, MO; nephews and nieces, Lucas Floyd, Adeline and Garrett Webster, Axel Webster; and several cousins.

 

She was preceded in death by her mother, Kelly Floyd; her father-in-law, Greg Webster; her paternal grandfather; Kenneth Darrel Floyd Sr; and her maternal grandparents, George and Lynda Coffin.

 

Private family services will be held.

 

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for her daughters’ education.

Ronald Lewis Pallister, age 68, of Osage Beach, Missouri, and formerly of Wapello, died Thursday, March 2, 2017, at the Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, Missouri.  The son of Lewis and Jean Polton Pallister, Ron was born on February 16, 1949 in Cedar Rapids.

 

He married Susan Schlutz on October 18, 1968 in Cedar Rapids.  She preceded him in death on December 23, 1995.  Ron married Kathy Blasor on November 14, 2014 at Osage Beach.

 

He graduated from Wapello High School and from a technical school in Cedar Rapids with a degree in Diesel Mechanics.  He had worked at Rath Packing and then at the sawmill with his Dad until owning and operating Pallister Pallets in Wapello for several years.  In retirement, he enjoyed restoring farm tractors and was also a school bus driver in Osage Beach.

 

Ron was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.  He also owned, operated, and raced at 34 Raceway in West Burlington and the Wapello Speedway.  He had his pilot’s license and captain’s license and enjoyed flying and boating.

 

His family includes his wife, Kathy; son, Ted & Heidi Pallister of Wapello; daughter, Heather Darts of Burlington; a step-daughter, Tonya Blasor of Burlington; and seven grandchildren, Ashtin, Dalton, Keaton, Brentin, Mason, Hunter, and Kyli.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Susan; and his beloved dog, Sam.

 

Following cremation, the funeral ceremony for Ron Pallister will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.

 

The family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.

 

A memorial fund has been established.

Raymond Francis Eibes, 97, of Omaha and formerly of Burlington, died at 12:15 AM Sunday, February 19, 2017, at the Bickford of Omaha in Omaha, Neb.

 

Born January 3, 1920, in Kingston, IA, he was the son of Joseph and Clementine Panther Eibes. On August 27, 1941, he married Mary Jane Brust in Burlington, IA. She died on November 1, 2005.

 

Raymond was a welder and sheet metal worker for Murray Iron Works for 42 years.

 

He was a member of SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church.

 

He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during World War II.

 

Raymond enjoyed hunting, gardening and spending time with his family.

 

Survivors include two sons, Mark (Jeanne) Eibes of Carter Lake, IA and Tim (Kathy) Eibes of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren, Justin Eibes, Elissa (Eric) Blabac, Joe Eibes and Amanda (Matt) Meyer and four great-grandchildren, Anthony (AJ) Eibes, Annie Eibes, Alex Blabac and Brenley Meyer.

 

Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Ferdinand, John, William, Edward and Paul Eibes; five sisters, Amelia Eibes, Esther McDorman, Lucy Crow, Mabel Helscher, and Wilma Erbland.

 

Cremation has been accorded.

 

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Saturday, March 11, 2017 at SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church.

 

The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Eibes will be 11:00 AM Saturday, March 11, 2017, at SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant.  Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.  Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.  Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held at SS. Mary & Patrick Parish Center following the burial.
