Susan Gail Fagerland, 65, of Sarasota, passed away peacefully at 8:34 PM Monday, August 21, 2017, at the Doctors Hospital of Sarasota in Sarasota, Florida.

Born October 29, 1951, in Burlington, IA, she was the daughter of Donald W. and Shirley Sylvester Hoelzen. On May 31, 1980, she married Dennis K. Fagerland in Burlington. The family had primarily lived in Minnesota since about 1987, but had just recently moved to Sarasota, FL.

She graduated from Burlington High School in 1969. She later graduated from Southeastern Community College in 1978 with a Medical Assistant’s Degree.

Sue was a loving wife and devoted mother to three daughters and was blessed to be called Grammie by six grandsons and one granddaughter. She was a master planner of all sorts of wonderful family events and get-togethers and was legendary in her extended family for those skills and attention to detail. Several notable events include an Easter, Thanksgiving and a Christmas for all extended family members at Camp-L-Kee-Ta (complete with Easter Egg Hunt, BINGO, and games to entertain everyone); and a wonderful sibling weekend at her home in Minnesota this past April, complete with food made from their mother’s recipes. Sue delighted in the details of making any family event a memorable one. Sue loved her girls and grandchildren with all her heart and was immediately there to help any of them with anything needed. One of their family’s traditions was matching Christmas jammies for everybody and then a family picture to add to the memories.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Faithe (Joe) Johnson Sarasota, FL, Carrie (Mike) Eicher of Wyoming, MN, Tamara Busch of Sarasota, FL; seven grandchildren, Gabriella and Zachary Johnson, Alexander, Jackson, Nolan and Greyson Eicher, Allen Busch;six siblings and their spouses, Deb (Mike) Bowen, David Hoelzen, Sally Jo Hoelzen, Amy Warren all of Burlington, Greg (Brenda) Hoelzen of Cedar Rapids, Laura (Ray) Harpin of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, August 25, 2017 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mrs. Fagerland will be 9:30 AM Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul’s Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Look Good, Feel Better Program which is offered in partnership with the American Cancer Society. It’s a free, single session program that helps strengthen confidence and self-esteem of women through beauty and cosmetic tips. Skin, nails, and hair can change during various cancer treatments. The program covers options for dealing with hair loss, skin care, and provides hands on lessons in applying make-up. A free cosmetic kit is provided to each participant. This program benefited Sue tremendously as she experienced the adverse effects of Chemotherapy. Information on making a memorial donation can be found at www.lookgoodfeelbetter.org/donors.

Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
