Margaret M. Briscoe, age 87 of Gladstone, Illinois, passed away at 4:03 a.m. Thursday August 24, 2017 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. She was born January 24, 1930 in Monticello, Missouri, the daughter of Jennings and Freda Speer Bevans. On June 11, 1948, she married Robert S. Briscoe in Williamstown, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 3, 1984.
At an early age, Margaret moved from Monticello to Williamstown, MO, where she attended a one room country school, and later graduated from Williamstown High School. After her marriage, she lived most of her adult life near Gladstone. She worked in the banquet rooms of Holiday Inn of Burlington and the Burlington Golf Club. She also assisted her husband in the operation of the family farm. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and working in her yard. She was a member of the Gladstone United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Wanda (Dennis) Hunter, of Biggsville, IL, four grandchildren, Brad, Brian, Ben and Brooke Hunter, 3 great grandchildren, Cody, Jacob, and Charles Hunter, and two sisters, Virginia St.Clair and Betty Sawyer, both of Kahoka, Mo. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Stanley Briscoe, two sisters, Mary Ellen and Lola Mae, and two brothers, J.B. and Tommy Bevans.
The funeral for Mrs. Briscoe will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday August 28, 2017 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, with Pastors Howard Ross and Basil Bevans officiating. Burial will be in the Carman Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon until 2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Gladstone United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hollie Joy Hutchins, age 74, of Dallas City, Illinois, passed away at 2:20 A.M., Thursday, August 24, 2017, at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center in LaHarpe, Illinois.
The daughter of Orval and Lois Paulas Erdman, Hollie was born on September 12, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. On January 24, 1976, she married Frank O. Hutchins in Joliet, Illinois.
Hollie grew up in New Lenox, Illinois, and graduated from Lincoln Way High School in 1961. She worked at the Union National Bank in Joliet in the 1970’s. She later worked for the Dallas City Elementary School for 29 years as the librarian and as an aide for the Title 1 program. She served as Cub Scout Leader and was a volunteer at the nursing home in Roseville, Illinois. Hollie was a member of the Burnside, Illinois, Christian Church where she enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible School.
Surviving are her husband, Frank, one son, Joseph (Melissa) Hutchins of Springfield, Illinois, and their two daughters, Elyse and Kiersten Hutchins. She is also survived by one brother, Orval Erdman of Braceville, Illinois, and one sister, Jane Sparks of Killeen, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, Joseph Georgis, and one half-sister, Marilyn.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 28, 2017, at the Burnside Christian Church with Pastor Mark Nichols officiating. Burial will be in the Harris Cemetery, Dallas City, Illinois. The family will meet with friends on Sunday from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. at the Burnside Christian Church. Cheryl Gentry, 58, of Oakville, died at 9:32 PM Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born June 3, 1959, in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of Emmit Tate and Emma Mae Jonkins. On April 24, 2010, she married Bill Gentry in Muscatine.
She worked as a housekeeper. She was employed at Metropolitan Water Reclamation in Chicago, IL, then Brockway and Winegard in Burlington.
She enjoyed gaming, BINGO, cards, watching Animal Planet, scary movies, and going to the CASINO. Cheryl also enjoyed fishing and walking her pets. She enjoyed playing softball, and was a fan of all Chicago sports.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Gentry; two sons, Wardell Brown of Decatur, IL, Daniel Gentry of Burlington; grandson she raised, Avvarri Jones of Oakville. seven daughters, Rebecca Brown of Burlington, Iquittia Brown of Phoenix, AZ, Aisha (Jerome Dobbey) Curry of Muscatine, Anna (Red Johnson) Fredericks of Chicago, IL, Melissa Gentry of Burlington, Hillary Gentry of Burlington, and Debbie Gentry of Oelwein, IA; five brothers, Andrew Burdine of Chicago, IL, Robert “Tony” (Patricia) Brown of Chicago, IL, Frank Tate of Chicago, IL, Emmit “Tate” (Brenda Blair) Brown of Burlington, Anthony Tate of Chicago, IL; two sisters, Betty Howell of Chicago, IL, Phyllis Smith of Des Moines; 26 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Wayne Bryant, twin brother, Darryl “Dee-Dee” Brown, one grandson, Wardell Brown Jr., one granddaughter, Danielle Gentry, and two nephews, Emmit Danzy and David Jones.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM where the family will receive friends Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Cheryl will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 2, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Great River Hospice House.
