Obituaries Friday September 8th

Rylan Alexander McIntosh, 12, of West Burlington died at 8:29 a.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Great River Medical Center – Emergency Room.
Born April 21, 2005 in West Burlington, he was the son of Eric Hayes and Amber Kay McIntosh-Crear.
Rylan was a student at Blackhawk School. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and he enjoyed anything outside, bumpy roads, ceiling fans, and mowing the yard.
Survivors include his mother and stepmother, Amber Kay McIntosh-Crear and Bobbi Crear of West Burlington; his father, Eric Hayes of Oakville; three brothers, Aaron McIntosh of West Burlington, Kyle McIntosh of Oakville, and William Hayes of Lone Tree; two sisters, Khrysta Beaird of Iowa City and Keira Harper of West Burlington; maternal grandmother, Jan Richmond of Evansville, Indiana; maternal grandfather, Steven C. McIntosh of West Burlington; paternal grandparents, Lisa and Dean Hayes of Oakville; maternal great grandparents, Phyllis and Roy Brent of Oquawka, Illinois; maternal great-great grandmother, Beulah Hoskins of Stronghurst, Illinois; aunts and uncles, Steven James McIntosh of Indiana, Jeremy and Melody Graham of Burlington, and Dayna Hayes, Jeremy Hayes, and Aaron Hayes all of Oakville.
He was preceded in death by his maternal great grandparents, William and Mary Ann McIntosh; paternal great grandparents, Bill and Donna Hayes, Kay Thacker, and Terry Newberry; and great-great grandfather, Jerry Hoskins.
Friends may call from noon until 8 p.m. Monday, September 11th, at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.
The funeral service for Rylan McIntosh will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 12th, at Lunning Chapel.
A memorial has been established for Special Needs Foundation for Des Moines County.
Cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel and will be accorded following the funeral service.

Barbara Oetken, 75, of Burlington, died at 7:12 AM Thursday, September 7, 2017, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born December 13, 1941, she was the daughter of Robert Benjamin and Virginia Ann Buechel Weiler. On October 4, 1958, she married Donald R. Oetken in Burlington. He later passed away on March 15, 2017.

She worked as a nurse at Burlington Medical Center, Dr. McMurray & Zabloudil’s office and, First Medical Equipment.

She graduated with her nursing degree in 1971.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, playing cards, shopping, her dog Zoey, hosting large gatherings of family and her grandchildren.

Survivors include mother, Virginia Ann (Weiler) Shelledy; two sons, Robert (Melanie) Oetken of Jupiter, FL, and Matt (Shannon) Oetken of Middletown; two daughters, Lori Parker of Burlington, and Jennifer (Robert) Haley of Middletown; one son-in-law, Edgar Douglas Bracey III of Jacksonville, FL; 14 grandchildren, Sarah Parker, Rachel Parker, Madison Oetken, Boyd Oetken, Donald Bracey, Douglas Bracey, Graham Oetken, Alexis Oetken, Elizabeth Oetken, Samuel Banks, Alexia Banks, Bobby Haley, Jake Haley, and Jessica Haley; two great-grandchildren, Lily Greene and Kira Bleything; two brothers, Mike (Kathy) Weiler of Tequesta, FL, and David (Modesta) Weiler of Stuart, FL; and two sisters; Carole Nordstrom of Burlington, Kathi (Jim) Heinzel of Gulfport, MS.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her father, her brother; Larry, and one daughter; Lisa Bracey.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Oetken will be 2:00 PM Monday, September 11, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Dean Graber as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the burial.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.
