Obituaries Monday December 4th

Minnie Ella Whitaker, age 76, of Oakville, died Friday night, December 1, 2017, at the Morning Sun Care Center. The daughter of A. Joseph and Sithie Crawford Howard, she was born on January 31, 1941 near Joplin, Missouri. Minnie married David Whitaker on December 6, 1969 in Muscatine.

She had worked at the Iowa Ordnance Plant and then was a homemaker and babysitter. She was known as mom and grandma to many in the community. Minnie enjoyed playing cards and games and simply enjoying the outdoors either from her patio or while walking.

She was a member of the Heritage Free Methodist Church in Burlington and attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Burlington.

Her family includes her husband, David; two sons, Joseph David Whitaker of Oakville and John & Sarah Whitaker of Dallas City, Illinois; a daughter, Rebekah & Adam Canty of Oakville; a step daughter, Patsy & Johnathon Lee of Burlington; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters; and two brothers.

Cremation will be fulfilled. The family will meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello. The funeral ceremony for Minnie Whitaker will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Burlington with Rev. Terry Vance officiating. A luncheon gathering will follow at the Church.

Memorial gifts will benefit the Heritage Free Methodist Church and the First Church of the Nazarene.

Sandy Sherman, 80, of Burlington, died at 1:33 AM Friday, December 1, 2017, at the Prairie Ridge Care & Rehabilitation in Mediapolis.

Born September 16, 1937, in Saint Joseph, MO, she was the daughter of Orville T and Kathryn L Hoffman Miller. She married Marvin Sherman in Las Vegas, N V. He died on December 4, 1994.

She served her country as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army.

Sandra was a semi truck driver for 20 years.

She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dodgeville. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, going to the casino and she especially loved her cat, Sally.

Survivors include friend, Debbie (Robert) Hoxie of Burlington.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Orville Miller Jr.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

There will be no visitation or services. Inurnment will be in Wapello Cemetery.

Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.

Mrs. Gloria Irene Stotler, 76, of Hamilton, IL, passed away at 5:50 a.m. Friday, December 1, 2017 at the Blessing Hospital, Quincy, IL.

Gloria was born on December 11, 1940 in Prairie City, IL, the daughter of Chester Lee and Garnet Irene Weaver Taft. On September 14, 1966 she married Jack Stotler in Moline, IL, he survives.

She attended schools in Prairie City. Mrs. Stotler worked at Methode Electronis and Dadant’s in Hamilton, but had spent most of her as a homemaker. Gloria was a longtime member of the Eagles Club in Monmouth and Carthage, IL. She enjoyed playing bingo, going dancing with her husband, Jack, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Jack, step-children, Beverly, Bobby, Mary Jane and Deborah K. all of Monmouth, IL, three grandchildren, Jerry (Erin) Taft of Donnellson, IA, Barry Taft of Hamilton, IL and Amber Dubois of Fort Madison, IA, 11 step-grandchildren, two great-grandsons, Colton and Avery Taft and one sister, Mary Harn of Macomb, IL.

Mrs. Stotler was preceded in death by one son, Gary Taft, one nephew, Mark Taft, one step-son, David Stotler and 7 siblings, Eris Jean Taft, Betty Lee Smith, Bronald Taft, Martha Mae Kreps, Nancy Jane Taft, Cynthia Lantz and Edwina Marie Mitchell.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, IL. Interment will be at the LaHarpe Cemetery, LaHarpe.
