Obituaries for Monday April 4th

Elliott Wayne Young, 68, of Colusa, Illinois, passed away at 4:50 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2022 at his home.

 

Elliott was born June 14, 1953 BC in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Doren and Norma Lee (Seigfried) Young. On June 9, 1974 he married Frances Peek in Gladstone, Illinois. They later divorced. On January 18, 2004 he married Cynthia Herbert in Nauvoo, Illinois. She survives.

 

Elliott was a 1971 graduate of Dallas City High School. Following high school he received his Associates Degree from Southeastern Community College in Burlington, Iowa. He worked in various departments for Sheaffer Pen Co. in Fort Madison for many years. In Elliott’s words “I’m a jack of all trades, master of none, cobbler at best, but I get the job done.”

 

He enjoyed playing sports in his youth and had a lifelong passion for playing guitar and bass.

 

Survivors include his wife: Cynthia; his mother: Norma Lee Young of Pontoosuc; eight children: Toni (Steve) Cloke of Marengo, Illinois, Rebecca (fiancé Damon) Young of Danville, Iowa, Karrie (Jason) Young-McCleary of Burlington, Heidi Young of Mediapolis, Iowa, Crystal Young of Oregon, Daniel (Billie) Young of Indiana, Matthew Young of Colusa, Aaron (Fantazia) Young of Colusa and Audrey Young of Colusa; two step-children: Brandy (Darren) Higgins and Danielle (Eric) Willette and one sister: Leona Young of Pontoosuc. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father: Doren; one brother: Roy Young and one grandchild: Kairyn Young.

 

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2022 at Myers Cemetery, rural Niota, Illinois. Banks & Beals Funeral Home of Dallas City is assisting the family.

Calvin DeWayne Cheney, 47, of Burlington, formerly of Kingston, died at 6:18 PM Tuesday, March 29, 2022, in Durant, IA.

Born May 29, 1974, in Burlington, he was the son of Kenneth Wayne Cheney and Janice Lorraine Laue Heyveld

He was a 1992 graduate of Mediapolis High School.

Calvin was known for making the most of every day, having fun and living life to the fullest. Calvin was described as being very funny and having a great sense of humor. He made the best Alfredo dish and loved a cold Bud Light. Most of all, Calvin loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.

Survivors include five children, Dallas Cheney of Houghton, IA, Cami (Tavian) DeSpain of Mount Pleasant, IA, Sierra Cheney of Houghton, IA, Gwendolyn Cheney of Durant, IA, and Lillian Cheney of Durant, IA; four grandchildren, Gracelynn Beason of Ollie, IA, Remington Cheney of Ollie, IA, Beckett DeSpain of Mount Pleasant, IA, and one on the way, Anakin DeSpain; fiancée Darcy Long of Burlington; three-siblings, Cindy (Rich) Cook, Jeff (Sherry) Cheney and Kenny Cheney all of Burlington; five step-siblings, Theresa Heyveld of Muscatine, IA, Jean (Dustin) Johnson of Burlington, Eric (Tracy) Heyveld of Burlington, Richard (Michelle) Blythe of Charitan and Todd (Barb) Blythe of West Burlington, IA; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Calvin at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for his kids.

Shirley Ann Little, 85, of Fountain Green, Illinois, formerly of Niota, Illinois, passed away at 3:20 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2022 at her home.

Shirley was born November 4, 1936 in Watertown, South Dakota, the daughter of George and Thelma Rowe. In 1962 she married Terrence “Sonny” Little. He preceded her in death on September 14, 1998.

In her younger years, Shirley’s father was a water tower manufacturer and his work took the family all over the United States. Her husband, Sonny, had the same occupation which continued her travels across the country. She worked at various jobs, including caregiver, waitressing, and working at a glass manufacturing company in Streator, Illinois, where she was influential in organizing a female glass workers union.

She and her family moved to the Niota area in 1977. Shirley worked for many years at Riverview Supper Club in Dallas City.

Survivors include two sons: Cole (Debbie) Little of Fountain Green and Todd Little of Lomax, Illinois; five grandchildren: Raina (Blake) Dameron, Riley Little, Ryder Little, Aurora (Derek) Churchwell and Sonny (Gwen) Little and one great-granddaughter: Ada Churchwell.

Mrs. Little was preceded in death by her husband: Sonny; one brother: Jake Rowe and one sister: Margie Hughes.

Cremation has been entrusted to Banks & Beals Funeral Home

A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Tull Cemetery, near Niota. A memorial fund has been established for Tull Cemetery. Memorial may be sent to the Shirley Little Memorial Fund, c/o Banks & Beals Funeral Home, P.O. Box 70, Dallas City, Illinois 62330.
