Irene Elaine Petty, 77, of Dallas City, Illinois, passed away at 10:46 a.m. Sunday, July 10, 2022 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

Irene was born December 14, 1944 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the daughter of Alton and Helen (Freeland) Scott. On December 22, 1963 she married Garry K. Petty in Lomax, Illinois. He preceded her in death November 20, 1996.

Irene was a 1963 graduate of Dallas City High School. She attended the former Hair Academy in Burlington, Iowa, following high school. She worked several jobs throughout her life including at the Britton House of Beauty in Dallas City, Winegard Company and Conifer Corp both in Burlington and at the Kensington in Fort Madison. She also helped her husband, Garry, on the farm.

She was a member of Merry Mender’s Club in Dallas City and was an avid collector of all things Barbie. She loved to sew, play cards and especially loved time spent with friends and family. She taught ceramic classes for many years at her home. Irene loved the TV series Heartland as the grandkids referred to as Grandma is watching her horsey show. Irene loved to travel to Oklahoma to visit family. She had a heart of gold and was always willing to help anyone. Irene enjoyed country music, especially Brooks and Dunn. She also enjoyed listening to her husband, Garry, and son, Rusty, sing Karaoke.

Survivors include one daughter: Jamie (Matt Wilhelm) Williams of Dallas City; two sisters: Jean Ann (Gary) Thomes of Dallas City and Shirley Vice of Mount Ayr, Iowa; one granddaughter Rachel Wesely and bonus grandchildren: Jennifer and Josh Skinner, Mackenzie, Madison and Brayden Shaw, Phillip Butler, and Hayden Korch, as well as many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew: Michael Thomes.

Besides her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by one son: Russell K. “Rusty” Petty; one son-in-law: Buck Williams; brothers-in-law: George Vice and Jamie Petty and a sister-in-law: Roxanna Petty.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. July 23, 2022 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating.

The family will receive friends from noon until time of services on July 23rd.

Henry George Shipman, age 83, of Dallas City, Illinois, passed away Monday, July 11, 2022 at Countryview Care Center in Macomb, Illinois. He was born October 7, 1938 in Webster, Illinois, the son of Cecil and Margie Klossing Shipman Sr. On November 18, 1962, he married Sonja Maynard in Pontoosuc, Illinois.
Henry worked as a farmhand earlier in life, then was employed at US Borax & Dial Corporation for 38 years. He coached baseball and basketball when his children were younger. He enjoyed hunting, camping, collecting rocks and Farmall equipment, and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinal Baseball Team. He was a member of the Grace Bible Church of Dallas City.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years: Sonja, one daughter: Rhonda (Tony) Francis of Clarksville, MO, one son: Steve (Mary) Shipman of Basco, IL, nine grandchildren: Jeremy, Josh, Jennifer, Colten, Ethan, Amanda, Steven, Lexis, and Aianna, eighteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, two sisters: Shirley (Paul) Gorrell of Burlington, IA, Carolyn Read of Macon, MO, two brothers: Cecil (Iola) Shipman of Ferris, IL, Clifford Shipman of Blandinsville, IL, and one sister in law: Janet Shipman of Blandinsville, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son: Rodney Shipman, one brother: Carl Shipman, one sister: Mildred Lewis, one sister in law: Jeannie Shipman, and two brothers in law: Vernon Read and Marion Lewis.
The funeral service for Mr. Shipman will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2022 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City. Burial will follow in the Webster Cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Banks & Beals, where the family will be present from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Memorials have been established for Grace Bible Church and Beacon of Hope Hospice. Jeffrey Hall, 67 of Burlington, died Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at his home.
Born December 6, 1954 in Burlington, he was the son of Jack L. and Evelyn B. (Prox) Hall. He attended First Christian Church. He attended Burlington High School.
Jeff married Sheila Barnes July 7, 1977. She preceded him in death on May 22, 1990. On June 1, 1991 he married Arleen Ann Miller. They later divorced.
Jeff was a machinist for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for 27 years, retiring January 2003.
He enjoyed playing guitar, martial arts (he was a 2nd degree black belt) and gardening. He loved all his family, especially his grandkids and attending their sporting events. Jeff loved being in the kitchen. He was a big fan of setting off fireworks!
Survivors include his children Feleicha (Kenny) Kemp of Burlington, Zachary (Korey) Hall of Iowa City, Natalie Hall (Brant Johnson) of Burlington, Heather Perez of Burlington, Robin Kindig of Burlington, Chad (Kelly) Brueck of Cedar Rapids, Sara (Jeff) Anderson of Davenport; 20 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and one on the way; siblings Jack (Becky) Hall of Macomb, IL, Rick (Kelly) Hall, David (Linda) Hall, Beth (Roger) Hecox all of Burlington, Special Friend and Partner Debbie Roscum of Burlington and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sheila and a nephew.
The funeral service for Jeff will be 10:00 AM Saturday, July 16th at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Sam Fratt officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm Friday, July 15th at Lunning Chapel. Interment will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Great River Christian School.

Larry W. “Stray Cat” Poole, 61, of Mount Sterling, died at 2:39 PM Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at the Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born May 4, 1961, in Keokuk, he was the son of Edna Virginia Smith. He was married to Pamela Sue Eley and they later divorced.

He loved listening to music, being outdoors, fishing, and spending time with his grandkids. He always looked forward to talking with friends and drinking an ice cold beer and his Wild Turkey whiskey.

Survivors include one daughter, Angel Poole of Burlington; one son, Jeremiah (Brandie) Poole of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Keaton Rollins, Leah and Cayden Geno, Aubriana Young, Kolton Lange, Aaliah Wessels, and Lillian Poole; seven brothers, John Smith, Charlie Smith, Brad Smith, Roger Smith, Bill Smith, Bob Poole, and Ronnie Poole; two sisters, Virginia Glaha, and Linda Miller; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, 2 grandchildren, Destinee Poole and Judah Wessels, and 2 brothers, Donnie Poole and Chad Smith.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
