Pamela Jo Moore, 70, of Burlington, died Monday, April 21, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born December 1, 1954, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Harry Francis and Mary Jo Brenneke Thompson. On January 4, 1974, she married Michael Dean Moore in Burlington. He passed on April 8, 2004.
She was a graduate of Burlington High School and later attended Southeastern Community College where she received a degree in graphic design.
Pam worked as an Executive Administrative Assistant for Joe Merschman at Mershman Seed in West Point until her retirement.
She loved springtime, so she could visit greenhouses and plant sales. Pam was a crafter, she would create many items from sewing clothes to making holiday decorations. She liked to read, play pool, travel to visit her family and attend music festivals and concerts. She enjoyed her exercise class at the West Point Library, when she was able.
Survivors include her children, Sarah (Justin) Schultz of Silverdale, WA, and Joshua (Jeni) Moore of Nebraska City, NE; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; mother, Mary Jo Snowden of Burlington; brother, Jeffrey (Deanna) Thompson of Wever; sister, Rebecca Thompson of Burlington; sister-in-law, Linda Snowden of Burlington and niece and nephews, Sam, Tim and Derek Thompson.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her father, step-father, Robert Snowden, and step-siblings, Steven Snowden and Debra Ayers.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
The Celebration of Life for Pam will be Saturday, May 17, 2025 from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Wever Fire & Rescue/Town Hall.

Born September 5, 1945, in Burlington, he was the son of Arthur and Mildred Myers McDowell. In 1963, he married Alice Williams. Together they had three children, Mark, Dana and Jennifer. They divorced in 1994. On September 4, 1999, he married Diana Raedene DeVauld in Burlington. She passed November 18, 2020.
He was a graduate of Burlington Community High School.
When Ron was young, he started working for Neisner Corner Store. He would go on to work for JI Case, then work as a Police Officer Burlington in the 60’s. Ron made the decision to service his country. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in Germany from August 2, 1971 until July 24, 1979. After his service in the Army, he joined the Illinois Air National Guard until April 3, 1993. After his service, he worked for a short time for Burlington Northern Railroad before finding his passion as a Veteran College Advisor for Southeastern Community College until his retirement. After retirement he worked for Lowe’s.
Ron was a simple man; enjoyed spending time with his dog and drinking coffee. He loved supporting his grandchildren at their games and crocheting blankets for them. Ron loved and watched every episode of NCIS and was also a Trekkie. Ron had enjoyed listening to country music; especially, Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson and Reba. He volunteered with the SCC Blackhawks and could be seen taking tickets, or in the beer tent at Steamboat Days.
Survivors include his children, Dana McDowell of Rock Island, IL, Jennifer McDowell of Olympia, WA, Mark (Laura) McDowell of Tulsa, OK, Jessica (Mike) Denning of Cedar Rapids and Jonathan (Amanda) Cooper of Burlington; ten grandchildren, Kasie, Drew, Austin, Jordan, Justin, Matthew, Joshua, Amanda, Finn, and Rori; one great-granddaughter, Marley; sister-in-law, Carol Franklin and her son, Michael McDowell; cousins, Elaine Smith, and Robert Myers.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, James McDowell. and twin, Donald McDowell.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
The funeral service for Mr. McDowell will be 2:00 PM Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for his family.

Karen Johnston, 79, of Wapello passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025 at her home. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025 at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Wapello. Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025 at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in the Wapello Cemetery. Karen Jane McKinney was born on July 6, 1945 in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Robert “Bob” and Helen Maxine (Earnest) McKinney. Karen graduated from Wapello High School in the class of 1963 and went on to attend Burlington Business School. In 1968, Karen was united in marriage to Tom Johnston in Wapello; he preceded her in death in 2002. Karen worked as the secretary for the Wapello Elementary School for 30 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Wapello Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and taught both Sunday School and Bible School. Karen enjoyed boating-making many wonderful memories with her family and friends and attending dances at the VFW in Wapello. She loved watching football and basketball and was especially fond of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Above all, Karen’s greatest love was spending time with her family and getting to watch her children and grandchildren in their many sporting events.
Karen will be deeply missed by her children, Kevin (Shelly) Johnston of Burlington and Tami (Brad) Kerr of Florida; grandchildren, Zak (Jenn) Kerr, Alex Kerr, Kyla Johnston and Tyler Johnston; great – grandchildren, Brooks, Boston and Baylor Kerr; and brother David (Joellyn) McKinney of Wapello.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom; in-laws, Clem and Wilma Johnston, sister, Julie (Dave) Jacobs and nephew, Scott Keltner.
Beryl was born April 20, 1920 in Lomax the son of Lloyd W. and Bessie M. (Burkiett) Sparrow. On January 18, 1952 he married Fern F. Welch at the Church of the Nazarene in Lomax. She survives.
Beryl lived all of his life in the Lomax area. He was a 1939 graduate of Dallas City High School. While in high school, Beryl assisted his father with the operation of the Lomax Canning Factory. Following high school, he attended college, before joining his brother, Vernal, in a farming operation. He also owned and operated heavy equipment on their farm and many other local farms. Later, Beryl returned to the Lomax Canning Factory, to work along side his father once more. After the closing of the Canning Factory, he continued to farm in the Lomax area until his retirement in 1990. After retirement, he remained active operating Beryl’s This & That in Lomax. He was a member of the Henderson County Farm Bureau and the Lomax Church of the Nazerene, where he received the 2002 Distinguished Service Award.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Fern, five children: Carla (Don) Williams of West Burlington, Lloyd E. (Janie) Sparrow of Ocala, Florida, Ann (Michael) Brooks of Crestview, Florida, Martin Sparrow of Dallas City and Byron (Jennifer) Sparrow of Stronghurst; 11 grandchildren: Adonica (Michael) Gould, Lucas (Kaylin) Sparrow, John (Stephanie) Sparrow, Chastity (Steve) Heagerty, Marc (Skye Moore) Sparrow, Bobby Sparrow, Danielle Sparrow, Monte Cole, Kaitlin (Matt) McVey, Jacob Sparrow and Mitchell Sparrow, 13 great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Jean Anne Sparrow of Salem, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Helen Hunter Pfieffer and Vera Mae Logan, one brother: Vernal Sparrow and one daughter-in-law: Traci Sparrow.
The funeral service for Beryl will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Pastor Jordan Knight officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 24th from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe.
As per Beryl’s wishes, following services his body will be donated to the Deeded Body Program at the University of Iowa. Burial will be held at a later date in Crane Cemetery, near Lomax.

Charles W. Sparrow, 85, of Columbus Junction, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Columbus Junction United Presbyterian Church from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Charles William Sparrow was born on January 30, 1940, in Hancock County, Illinois the son of Dwight William and Magarita “Fern” (Heberer) Sparrow. Charles served in the National Guard based out of Burlington. He was united in marriage to Judith Oetken on September 20, 1959 in Burlington, Iowa and later divorced. On August 19, 1983, Charles was united in marriage to Nancy Cutkomp in Des Moines, Iowa. Charles owned and operated Compu-tek Computers in Muscatine, Columbus Junction, Washington and Iowa City. He was also a past area manager for Vigortone Ag Products in Cedar Rapids, former State Adult Ministries Director for the Free Methodist Church, past Treasurer and Sunday School Superintendent of the Columbus Free Methodist Church and past Elder of the Columbus Junction United Presbyterian Church.

Charles will be deeply missed by his wife, Nancy of Columbus Junction; his children, Carlyle (Kim) Sparrow of Lancaster, Ohio and Lucinda (Mike) Hiebert of McPherson, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Bonnie (Sherman) Waters of Cornelius, North Carolina; step-children, Kimberly (Brett) Hafner of Columbus Junction, Deborah (Victor) Haan of Cedar Rapids and Jennifer (Rick) Coleman of Cedar Rapids; 16 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and sibling, Irene (David) Hulett of Knoxville, Tennessee.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Lanny and Monty and siblings, Margaret Mae (Walter) Whitson and Doris (Gilbert) Blom.
