A wonderful woman, Esi was much loved by her family and friends.  She was kind, compassionate, generous to a fault and always ready to lend a hand or a listening ear.  She was funny, quick witted, loyal and enjoyed hosting parties.  A light in many people’s lives, Esi had a wide array of friends of all ages and walks of life, with many friendships that spanned decades.  She was an idealist, passionate about social justice and a great defender of the underdog.  She volunteered in a number of capacities, including a rape crisis line, political activities, animal rescue and as a greeter at the Burlington train station.

Born February 5, 1945 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Fern & John Burke – the 4th of 6 children.  She attended St. Paul Elementary and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1963.

After early retirement, Esi returned to Burlington to be with her mother, “Mrs. B” of Notre Dame High School, and her maternal aunt, Connie Moorman of “The Townhouse” Restaurant and Bar.  They shared many adventures and road trips together, including one to Alaska.

In 2001, she accompanied her daughter to China to share in the journey of adopting her beloved granddaughter, MeiLan Hardin.  She continued to be an active and much loved presence in their lives.

While in Burlington, she became a Certified Nurse Assistant.   Her genuine affection for elders made her a favorite with her patients.  She also provided loving care to her mom and aunt to the end of their days.
